We believe that centering our approach to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) around our people is the best way to unleash our collective potential, accelerate progress for all of our stakeholders, and fulfill our powerful purpose: mobilizing the future to create a better world.

At the heart of our efforts is investing in a better team through our organization-wide commitment to inclusion, diversity & equity and prioritizing our team members’ health and wellbeing, safety, growth, and sense of belonging and purpose. Focusing on our people inspires them to create better innovations specifically designed to make the world safer, smarter, and more sustainable, paving the way to a better planet and, ultimately, a better society for all.

Our Actions

Materiality assessments. 

Within a month of our launch, we completed a comprehensive, data-driven analysis to identify our top ESG priorities, including environmental impact, a fair and inclusive workplace, employee wellbeing, health and safety, integrity and compliance, governance, innovation and digitalization, and finding and nurturing talent. We have invested in an AI-powered tool for rigorous, ongoing materiality assessments.

Guiding principles.

At Vontier we value action and measurable results, and as we embed ESG throughout our organization, we use systems thinking to ensure that people and planet are part of the equation for every business decision. We approach this world-changing work with courage and conviction—the courage to try new things and learn from mistakes, and the conviction to act with integrity, even when it means prioritizing long-term progress over short-term gain. 

We established these principles to guide our decisions: 

  • Employee-led: We believe putting our people at the heart of our ESG efforts will maximize the impact we can have on the world. We also believe in the power of tapping into the passion of our employees to accelerate our ESG impact.
  • Transparency and Accountability: We are committed to meaningful disclosures that increase over time. We will hold ourselves accountable by embracing and sharing challenging, metrics-driven targets.
  • Lead with VBS: We harness the power of the Vontier Business System (VBS) to accelerate our ESG impact. As an example, the Veeder-Root team in Altoona, PA conducted our first Energy Kaizen in 2021. The team surpassed its 20% energy reduction target by implementing dozens of immediate actions and also identified several long-term, high impact projects. 

Global Commitment

Vontier is a proud signatory of the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest global corporate sustainability initiative (read CEO Mark Morelli’s statement of commitment). Inspired by the UN’s sustainable development goals, we identified ways in which our core business and operations can contribute to mobilizing the future for people, the planet, and global prosperity. We have prioritized four where we think we can make the most impact, and that reflect our desire to lead and solve problems on a global scale.

Our Goals

On the road to Net Zero.

Setting and sharing goals helps keep us accountable in meeting our ESG commitments. We have committed to reducing our absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 45% by 2030, and to achieving Net Zero by 2050 in support of the Paris Climate Agreement. We are aligning our goals with climate science and the methodology defined by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) to reduce GHG emissions at the pace and scale consistent with keeping warming below 1.5°C. In addition, EHS metrics such as Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) and Days Away Restricted or Transferred (DART) help us track our commitment to employee safety. For us, ESG is a wide-ranging journey and we're excited to share additional goals in the future.

Every year our teams around the world dedicate a day to supporting causes they care about in their local communities. Team members can choose their own activity or serve with a group. From packing meals for hungry kids to keeping streets clean, we’re working together to create a better world.

The Vontier Foundation is our 501(c) 3 charitable giving arm. Through direct contributions and employee match opportunities, we amplify impact and provide relief where it’s most needed, from urgent COVID-19 assistance to disaster relief and support for veterans.

The Vontier Scholarship Program is a powerful way we invest in our communities and give back to our team members and their children. We help prepare young people for a bright future with renewable scholarships for undergraduate and graduate study. In 2021, we awarded a total of over $50,000 for 10 new scholarships and 6 renewals.

We’re committed to running our business ethically and responsibly for the benefit of all stakeholders.

ESG Oversight

We created our ESG governance structure in 2020. The Vontier Board has oversight of our ESG program while the Nominating and Governance Committee oversees ESG disclosures. We created an ESG Executive Council consisting of the entire senior leadership team that oversees ESG at the management level, and an ESG Advisory Team that consists of cross-functional and cross-operating company workstream owners in areas like environmental, health, safety and security, sustainability, cyber, employee benefits and governance.

We actively protect the health and safety of our team members, customers, and communities and conduct business in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way.

Supplier Code of Conduct

We take a stand for human rights and fair labor standards, and we expect all suppliers and subcontractors across our operating companies to do the same.

We are committed to producing products ethically and ensuring that none of our workers were forced, coerced, blackmailed, or trafficked into their jobs.

Communicates our expectation that our suppliers source only from conflict-free smelters.

We support universal human rights and the dignity of people throughout our operations, our communities in which we operate, and our global supply chain.

Charitable Contributions Policy

We comply with all anti-bribery laws and do not make charitable contributions to individuals, religious organizations, political causes, or organizations that discriminate based on age, gender, race, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, marital status, or disability.

Gift and Entertainment Policy

We do not allow gifts or entertainment to be provided or accepted if the gift or entertainment would violate any applicable law.

We are committed to complying with all anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws globally, and to holding our subsidiaries to the same standards.
